Many places you have read about Goals settings, Smart Goals, How to make goals and so on. Today I am also going to speak about Smart Goals only but want to elaborate in some different way.
I would like to start this with the lines 'A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at.'
Goal should be planned in the smart way for the best outcomes. Here what i need to say with smart no not what all you have heard but it's much more then that.
Goal set should be SMART enough to motivate you, to inspire you. Goal Set should always be more then Potential so that you always be motivated and work at your full potential. Every company/firm must have a strong integrated approach to setting up its goal and targets, an activity that is aligned to involve every individual of the company to realize its targets set.
Sometimes it will happen that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.
Pygmalion Effect:
The work of Rosenthal and Jacobsen (1968), among others, shows that teacher expectations influence student performance. Positive expectations influence performance positively, and negative expectations influence performance negatively. Rosenthal and Jacobson originally described the phenomenon as the Pygmalion Effect.
“When we expect certain behaviors of others, we are likely to act in ways that make the expected behavior more likely to occur.” (Rosenthal and Babad, 1985)
Benefits:
Demonstrates how expectations can drive better performance
Helps leaders develop their staff
Lifts productivity throughout the organization
