A shift from Craft Management to Modern Management....

Each lecture of Prof. Mandi is surprising me. This time he entered in the class with small cubical blocks with him to make us learn the difference between the craft management and modern management. He asked a one question, You want a Cobbler making the shoes or you want shoes made by 100 people in organization( Adidas, Puma, Bata etc.), you would prefer 2nd options whereas Cobbler is expert of that thing. The cobbler is craft management and the option of many people is modern management. I was not so clear about difference in both but we are taken to the activity which cleared every doubt regarding it.
Prof. Mandi on Craft/Modern Management in his own style
We did the activity of building Tower with blogs. The activity was performed in 2 scenarios:
1. A man has given blogs to build a tower no instructions except that he can't use any support.

2. A blind folded person build a tower with just single hand that too left hand and a person will guide to him (manager) in building that tower and one CEO is also assigned.
In what case you will have big tower? I know you would prefer 1st one even we did the same but results are different.

A single person was able to make Tower using 22 blocks and in the 2nd case blind folded person made a tower of 26 blocked. Surprised....Even we were. Concept is simple
Old Management/ Craft Management that is in 1st case Doing and Deciding by same person.
In 2nd Case It was only Doing by Blind folded person and Deciding factor is given to other person , this is modern management. Here blind folded person is just doing what he is guided by the manager. Today's manager want this only.

Deciding Factor is the sole of work and Modern management separate this deciding factor to the doing factor. With the help of activity we come up with some differences between Craft Management and Modern Management.

Some contradictions have come in class after this that why is the concept of Flattered organization is coming then by reducing the management. The point he explained is Organization management is at three level Lower Management , Middle Management and Upper Management . By flattered organization concept they are removing the middle management. Lower Management and Upper management are always required.

So our discussion come to an end at this for now. We will be getting some more MBA Gyan form our guru Prof. Mandi and will keep on posting for you all.......
